David Gives His Testimonial Of His Journey With Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

Video Summary

  • David came to The Spero Clinic after struggling with undiagnosed and gradually worsening pain in his left pinky toe for about 15 years, which severely impacted his roles as a pastor, husband, and father.
  • His condition, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), was unique with few classic symptoms, leading to difficulties in obtaining a correct diagnosis until the previous spring.
  • He started his treatment at The Spero Clinic on December 5, describing his initial pain level as a 10 out of 10, which significantly reduced following his first vagus nerve adjustment by Dr. B.
  • As of the testimonial date, David’s pain fluctuates but generally remains around a level 3 or 4, occasionally reaching zero but increasing with extensive activity.
  • He looks forward to returning to his duties as a pastor and leader of his spiritual community, and to resuming a productive and fulfilling life with his family.

  • So what brought you to Spero?
  • What brought me to Spero Clinic was…. 14 years ago I began to have a pain in my left pinky toe, as crazy as that sounds, and it just grew. Like really, it’s 15 years now, it just grew little by little, and some days were okay… some days were not okay… some days were okay… some days were not okay…
  • And it got to the point where as a pastor, and a father, and especially as a husband, I was just failing. I was just failing and and I’ve never been somebody who failed people that much, and it got to be last fall where I really was not functioning at all.
  • And I didn’t have a CRPS diagnosis. My CRPS, just like everybody’s, is different, but mine had very few of the classic symptoms, and so, no doctors could diagnose it very well.
  • And so, last spring, I got a diagnosis and still it was one more of the dumb diagnoses in my mind… like this is probably not real until I found that it was… and so I got here on December the 5th and began my healing journey.
  • What was your pain at when you got here?
  • Oh, 10. First day, 10. I had my first Vagus Nerve adjustment and Dr B put his hand fingers right here and it felt like somebody stuck a rod in my throat and everything just closed up and then all the muscles and nerves just contracted and then moved up my throat and my back of my throat, up to my sinus areas, and then out my head. And it did that about three or four or five times… and my pain started going down after that.
  • And what are you what is your pain at today?
  • Mine today is not at zero. I’ve had several times when it’s been at zero, but it’s still as though if I use it [my pinky toe] a lot then the pain flares more so I’m at probably a three or four right now.
  • What are you looking forward to getting back to?
  • I’m looking forward to get back to my wife, back to get to my family, and back to being a productive Pastor that is fruitful and changes people’s lives in the way that I used to. I’m getting ready to get back to having a flourishing spiritual Community that I’m capable of leading.

Suffering from a Neurological disorder can be incredibly isolating, hopeless and frightening and we understand that. Our treatment protocols are not meant to directly treat CRPS. What we work to achieve is the rehabilitation of the central nervous system.

The nervous system is a collective of nerves stemming throughout your body with the brain as the controller. Your nervous system controls all of the information that your body transmits to communicate with your brain. In the case of CRPS, your nervous system being damaged, can severely malfunction and send signals in the extreme to simple sensory input. i.e. – the wind blows on your hands and it feels like a terrible burn. By relaxing and rehabilitating the nervous system, as well as correcting any other imbalances within your brain and body, we hope to reset and restore the proper functionality of the systems within your body.
