The nervous system is a complex and far-reaching network of nerve cells called neurons that reach all areas of your body. This system receives and relays sensory information like vision, sound, smell, taste, touch, and pain. It controls the entire body as a massive and intricate computer, regulating and monitoring all body functions from brain to toe.
The nervous system is fragile. It can be damaged, and it heals with great difficulty. Neurological dysfunction affects the brain’s ability to communicate with your muscles and sensory organs. Nervous system injuries can be painful, and cause weakness, tingling, numbness, and even changes in blood circulation. Yet, healing is possible.
What Causes Neurological Dysfunction
The Central Nervous System (CNS) is the system that runs everything in the body. It controls movement, function, the immune system, and pain—and it also controls healing.
The Autonomic Nervous System (ANS), a subsystem of the central nervous system, is the part of your brain that runs everything automatically. It is divided into the Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS), and the Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS). The SNS is tasked with activating your body’s defense mechanisms in moments of stress or danger, like increasing heart rate and diverting blood flow to muscles while temporarily slowing digestion. Essentially, it mobilizes energy to respond to a perceived threat.
On the other hand, the parasympathetic nervous system is the healer. This system is responsible for the body’s rest and digestion response when the body is relaxed, resting, or feeding. It is meant to undo the work of the SNS after a stressful or dangerous situation.
This cooperation of nervous systems seems perfect, but it can go very wrong. For example, when a person suffers a neck injury following a car accident affecting the brain stem directly or indirectly, the sympathetic nervous system activates and can get stuck in the “on” position. When this happens, your parasympathetic nervous system, the healer, is turned off. This, then, will lead to the classic symptoms of fibromyalgia and other autonomic dysfunctions.
The Answer in Healing
Founder and CEO of the Arkansas-based The Spero Clinic, Dr. Katinka van der Merwe, conducted years of intensive research into the central nervous system and its components. She found that the most effective approach to treating neurological disorders is to treat the central nervous system itself.
Over the years, she developed numerous tools and techniques to perfect Spero’s healing strategies program and help patients achieve healing.
Their unique approach is focused on nervous system rehabilitation consisting of Vagus nerve stimulation, neuromuscular re-education with patented technology, magnetic resonance technology, viral and bacterial analysis and treatments, and liver detoxification. These modalities are designed to enhance one another synergistically to restore balance to the central nervous system.
According to Dr. Katinka, “When the nervous system is given the tools that it needs to achieve a state of balance once again, signs and symptoms of neurological disorders tend to resolve.”
Results Matter
Neurological dysfunction disorders occur in many forms, ranging from chronic pain conditions such as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) to Fibromyalgia to Long COVID. Treatments vary, condition by condition, but in most cases the medical community resorts to medication to suppress and/or prevent symptoms from occurring.
Unlike these traditional treatments, The Spero Clinic does not aim to disrupt or numb symptoms or pain signals. Instead, they aim to uncover abnormalities in the central nervous system and restore balance to it. In other words, they heal from the inside out.
As a result, hundreds of patients have entered The Spero Clinic over the years. In most cases, those patients arrived when crippled with chronic pain, lack of movement, inability to walk, and a host of other issues.
More than 90% of those patients walked out of Spero’s door in full remission or completely healed after having gone through intensive treatment. Their stories are often heartbreaking, but with Spero’s unique treatments, they receive a new chance in life.
Take Justin, who had been bedridden for fifteen years with full body CRPS and eventually was air-lifted to The Spero Clinic for treatment.
Now, fully recovered again, he says, “When I left the clinic, I was walking over a mile, working out with weights, and most importantly, I could have a catch with my nephews! All the bone-crushing pain that I had was completely gone! Eight months later I continued to do things that I had only dreamt of. I cannot thank everyone at The Spero Clinic enough for what they have done for me. My deepest thank you to the entire team.”
